Special Educational Needs & disability support for your child in school

The schools in the Shelley Pyramid have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and are supported by Kirklees Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. Our schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, where families want this to happen.

Our job at Skelmanthorpe First & Nursery School is to help your child achieve the very best we can, together with your help. We will try to provide you with the right information at the right time, to help you to work out what your child’s needs are and to support you to make an informed decision about how they will best be met in school.

Our SEND Report (linked to the Kirklees Local Offer) will inform you of the types of support offered and available for your child at Skelmanthorpe First & Nursery School, as well as across our Shelley Pyramid of Schools. We hope it will help you understand who can help and how this support can be accessed.

Local support services for SEND could and do change. The information in our SEND Report will be reviewed on a regular basis by our special needs co-ordinator (SENCO) along with colleague SENCOs within the Shelley Pyramid of Schools and will be updated as soon as possible to reflect any new support service offered. Our SENCOs will meet together to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our SEND provision and to share good practice in our schools.
