Hedgehog Class

Hello and a very warm welcome to everyone.  Your children have made me very proud as to the speed they have settled into the classroom routines and taken to school life.  We are looking forward to our first full week and joining the rest of school on Friday afternoon for celebration assembly.

Who’s who?

In addition to myself there will be other adults supporting your child’s learning in Hedgehog class. Mrs Thorpe will be supporting the children’s learning every morning.  Mrs Booth will assist with the children’s learning on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and Miss Scott will support learning on a Thursday and Friday afternoon.   Mrs Pogson will teach the children on a Wednesday afternoon.

P.E. is usually on Monday and Wednesday afternoon.  Please ensure your child has an indoor kit of shorts and t-shirt as well as an outdoor kit of jogging bottoms, sweatshirt or jumper and trainers. Long hair is tied back for PE and all jewellery has to be removed. It is so much easier if your child does not wear earrings on P.E. days.

Help in Class

I always appreciate help in class to work with the children.  If you would like to help in class please do come and have a word with me.

Your child will get homework in Hedgehogs. This will be topic based or to support phonic work

we are covering in class.  Your child will get sounds to learn and high frequency words to read, write and spell.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday in their Homework book.  Please return finished homework on a Thursday morning.  There will be a tray in the classroom for finished homework.

Class Library

A class library is soon to be available.   There will be a range of books that the children can take home and return when they have finished. These books will be available in the cloakroom.  Each child will have a borrowing card.  Please keep the card updated when you borrow and return a book.

We will begin our first full week in school finding out about how to grow our brains and how to have a good attitude to learning.  We will be studying a book titled ‘Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg.  This book highlights that wonderful things can come from a mistake.

As the term, progresses we will be studying the topic ‘People Who Help Us’. The main topic areas of learning are attached.  The children will begin this study by learning about how to be helpful and exploring the need to say thank you.  Hopefully we will be visiting the fire station and have a visit by the community police officer.  We will also be learning about the importance of cleaning our teeth and be learning about the dentist.  I would like to set up a role-play fire station, police station and dentist where the children will be able to act out their experiences.  If you have any dressing up costumes, stories, books or play equipment, which would support the children’s learning they would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Miss Eleanor Stower
