French

In the Shelley Pyramid of Schools, French is the chosen Modern Foreign Language.

We teach French to all children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The older children have longer and more regular French lessons.

The aim of our French teaching is to provide the basis for later language learning by building in the children enthusiasm, curiosity and respect for other languages and cultures.

The lessons provide opportunities for the children to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. As well as covering agreed units of vocabulary and grammar in each year group, where possible, links are made to the class cross-curricular topic.

Our French teaching is supported by a range of activities such as games, rhymes, songs and role play as well as the use of some day to day French throughout the daily routines.

We provide opportunities for the children to explore other cultures through experiences of food, art, music and dance.
