Welcome to Hedgehogs' Class

Class Motto

Hand in hand, together we can.

Class Teacher - Miss Stower

ETA's - Mrs Thorpe & Mrs Fisher

Related image The topic this half term is ‘Dinosaurs’. A topic focus sheet is below. We have started the topic by describing our own dinosaur.  We are busy investigating the environments in which dinosaurs used to live.  There is already a dinosaur swamp and volcanic dinosaur land within the classroom. Our volcano could be  active  and is due to erupt at any moment!

Throughout the topic we will be reading fiction and non-fiction books as well as poems about dinosaurs. If your child has a favourite dinosaur book or poem, please bring it into school so we can share it with the class. As the topic develops a Dinosaur Den will appear in the classroom.  If you have any soft dinosaur toys, small world dinosaur figures, fossils, dinosaur books, jigsaws, posters or palm tree / fern plants they would be much appreciated. The children will  be making a dinosaur sock puppet so I am also collecting old socks.

Who’s who?

In addition to myself there will be other adults supporting your child’s learning in Hedgehog class.

Mrs Thorpe will be working also supporting the children’s learning on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday morning.  Mrs Fisher will assist with the children’s learning on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon.   Mrs Pogson will teach the children on a Monday afternoon.

We are extremely lucky to have Miss Lauren Reynolds a BA Primary Education Student from Huddersfield University on placement in Hedgehog class next week Jan15th – 19th.  Miss Reynolds is on placement for one week and will return to support our learning again for a longer placement in March and April.

P.E.  will continue to be on a Monday and Wednesday.  On a Monday the children will be studying gymnastics and on a Wednesday they will study games.  Please ensure your child has an indoor kit of shorts and t-shirt as well as an outdoor kit of jogging bottoms, sweatshirt or jumper and trainers. Long hair is tied back for PE and all jewellery has to be removed. It is so much easier if your child does not wear earrings on P.E. days. Please name all P.E clothing.

Help in Class

I always appreciate help in class to work with the children.  Thank you to everyone who filled out the helping in class form.  I will be in touch shortly. If you didn’t complete a form but would like to help please do come and have a word with me.

Homework will continue to be sent home on a Friday.  Please return finished homework from the homework book on a Thursday morning.  Your child will continue to get new sounds to learn each week in their orange sound book.   Please support your child to read and write the high frequency words.  Please keep the sound book and high frequency book in your child’s book bag so it can be updated weekly.  Your child will also bring home a reading book and diary. The diary is for you to write a comment in about how well your child has read at home.  Please listen to your child read as often as possible,  keep the diary and reading book in your child’s reading bag.

Class Library

A class library is soon to be available.   There will be a range of books that the children can take home and return when they have finished. These books will be available in the cloakroom.  Each child will have a borrowing card.  Please keep the card updated when you borrow and return a book.

Thank you for your continued support

Miss Eleanor Stower
