Welcome to Hedgehogs' Class

Class Motto

Hand in hand, together we can.

Class Teacher - Miss Stower

ETA's - Mrs Thorpe & Mrs Fisher

Hello and a very warm welcome to Hedgehog's Class. The children have made me very proud as to the speed they have settled into the classroom routines and taken to school life.

Who’s who?

In addition to myself there will be other adults supporting your child’s learning in Hedgehog class.

Mrs Thorpe will be working also supporting the children’s learning on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday morning.  Mrs Fisher will assist with the children’s learning on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon.   Mrs Pogson will teach the children on a Monday afternoon.

P.E.

P.E. is usually on Monday and Wednesday please ensure your child has an indoor kit of shorts and t-shirt as well as an outdoor kit of jogging bottoms, sweatshirt or jumper and trainers. Long hair is tied back for PE and all jewellery has to be removed. It is so much easier if your child does not wear earrings on P.E. days.

Help in Class

I always appreciate help in class to work with the children.  Thank you to everyone who filled out the helping in class form.  I will be in touch shortly. If you didn’t complete a form but would like to help please do come and have a word with me.

Homework

Your child will get homework in Hedgehogs. This can be connected to the topic or to support work we are covering in class.  Homework will be sent home on a Friday in their Homework book.  Please return finished homework on a Thursday morning.  There is a tray in the classroom for finished homework.  In addition to this as we begin to learn phonics your child will get sounds to learn and high frequency words to recognise.

Reading

Class Library

A class library is soon to be available.   There will be a range of books that the children can take home and return when they have finished. These books will be available in the cloakroom.  Each child will have a borrowing card.  Please keep the card updated when you borrow and return a book.

Topic

We are starting the year studying the topic ‘All about me’. The main topic areas of learning are attached.  The work you have completed at home has been incorporated into a lovely display.  Please take some time in the morning to admire it and celebrate what your children have already been learning.  Each week will have a different focus covering different aspects of the topic. The focus for the past two weeks has been ‘Me’.  Your children have already taken selfies, measured themselves, investigated their birth dates and written their names in various ways. As the topic develops, I would like to set up a role play shoe shop where the children will be able to compare sizes, develop the concept of buying and selling and begin to recognise coin values. If you have any shoes, slippers, shoe boxes, shoe horns, feet size guides or anything you think would be suitable for a shoe shop, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank You
